Laurie Moyer was named Interim City Manager by the San Marcos City Council on July 6, 2010 as the City of San Marcos embarks on a search for a new manager. She guides a City workforce of 550 employees who offer a broad range of services to the San Marcos community.
Ms. Moyer joined the City staff in 1988 as a Utility Engineer and was promoted to Director of Environment and Engineering in 1999. In 2007 she was promoted to Assistant City Manager, where she has overseen activities of the Development Services, Capital Projects, and Public Services Departments, including the City’s electric and water/ wastewater utilities. |

A native of Colorado from a family of engineers, Ms. Moyer grew up in San Antonio. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1982 from the University of Texas at Austin.
She has guided the City of San Marcos through many years of dramatic community growth during her tenure, including millions of dollars in utility, road, pedestrian and bicycle lanes, and public facility projects.
Ms. Moyer has contributed to many major projects, including construction of the Wonder World Drive extension, San Marcos Fire Station 5, Rio Vista Falls dam replacement project, expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Surface Water Plant; voter-approved projects from bond elections in 1988, 1990, 1998 and 2005, airport improvements, creation of community Master Plans, the Land Development Code, and construction of two railroad overpasses.
The City’s Capital Improvements Program has grown from an average of $2 million a year to investments of $26 million a year in expanding infrastructure.
As Interim City Manager, Ms. Moyer provides management and oversight of City Departments, including Administration, Capital Improvements, Community Services, Development Services, Finance, Fire, Police, Public Services, Technology Services, and the Municipal Airport.
She coordinates implementation of the City Council’s policies, including five adopted goals: expanding economic development, improving the City’s image, enhancing the region’s transportation grid, improving regional collaboration, and supporting environmental protection and smart growth.
Ms. Moyer is married to John Moyer of San Marcos and is the mother of Coltan Nading, a sophomore at San Marcos High School, and stepsons Daniel Moyer, a senior computer science major at University of Texas at San Antonio, and Ryan Moyer, a junior at Texas State University studying chemistry. |
