San Marcos Electric
Utility is a municipally owned and operated retail electric
distribution system purchased by the City of San Marcos in
1986. The Lower Colorado
River Authority sells wholesale power to the City. San Marcos
is proud of our low electric rates and excellent reliability
record. The Electric Utility serves over 21,100 customers in San
Marcos, including residential, commercial, institutional and
industrial customers.
The
Electric Utility regularly trims trees to maintain adequate clearance between electric
lines and trees. Trimming tree limbs is essential in providing dependable electric service
with few interruptions. If you notice tree limbs interfering with power lines please
contact the Service Department at (512) 393-8313 or via e-mail.
The Street Light and Customer Lighting Programs benefit the San Marcos Citizens by providing a safer, well-lit environment that reduces the chance of theft and vandalism. Street Lights within the SMEU
service area are installed and maintained by the City of San
Marcos. Customer lighting can be installed for a fee and maintained for a monthly
charge. Outside SMEU service
area lighting is on
a case by case basis. These lights operate on a photocell
and should be on all hours of darkness. If you notice a light out or a
light burning during the daylight hours please contact our Service
Department at (512) 393-8313 or via e-mail.
Customers must call the 811 hotline or 1-800-DIG-TESS (1-800-344-8377) at least two working days prior to beginning excavation. The hotline operator will notify local utilities of the dig location, and utility representatives will mark underground utilities with paint or flags. Private property utility lines will not be located by the representative.
